About Steen Helmer

Independent advisor to B2B software companies on growth that holds.

Senior growth advisory for European B2B software SMEs

I work with owners, executives, and boards of European B2B software companies that want to sharpen strategy, improve commercial execution, build partner-led growth, or expand internationally.

My role is hands-on and personal. I stay involved from start to finish, helping turn strategic choices into practical commercial progress.

Through TBK Consult’s international network of independent consultants, I can add specialist expertise when the assignment requires it — without compromising senior attention, continuity, or fit.

Steen Helmer · Advisor
Background

A career across operating and advisory.

Commercial growth advice grounded in experience

I bring more than 25 years of experience from inside B2B software companies — as a founder, commercial leader, board member, and independent advisor.

My work has centred on the practical realities of growth: creating pipeline, building partner-led routes to market, entering new geographies, and making the decisions that move commercial plans from ambition to execution.

Before founding TBK Consult, I led commercial functions across the Nordics and international markets. That experience shaped my view of growth: the difference between progress and stagnation is rarely strategy alone. It is the ability to make sharper decisions, sequence them correctly, and stay committed when execution becomes difficult.

Today, I advise owners, commercial leaders, and boards on the commercial questions I have spent my career working through in practice.

In the field

The advisory work is grounded in operating practice — and shared openly. Steen speaks regularly to founders and commercial leaders in the B2B software industry on strategy, partner motions, and international growth.

How I work

Four principles that hold the work together.

The principles are not unique. The discipline of holding all four at the same time is what most engagements need.

01

Direct work, no handoff

When you engage me, you get me. The work is not passed to junior consultants. The thinking is mine, the recommendations are mine, and the relationship is yours.

02

Senior, throughout

From first call to last decision, the seniority does not change. You are not paying for a partner-led pitch and a manager-led delivery.

03

Built to compound

Engagements should leave behind a way of working, not just a deck. Methods, cadence, and decisions that hold up after the engagement ends.

04

Independent, but connected

I work as an independent. When an engagement needs specialist depth — pricing, partner technology, local market — I bring trusted experts in. No permanent firm overhead.

Beyond the deck

Engagements should leave behind a way of working, not just a deck. Methods, cadence, and decisions that hold up after the work ends.

AI in practice

AI is used where it improves speed, clarity, analysis, or execution quality. Specific AI assistants are also made available to clients where relevant. AI is a working method, not the headline.

The method

Every engagement follows the same five-step method: clarify the situation, find the bottlenecks, set priorities, build the action plan, and support execution. The structure is deliberately simple — the work is in the rigour at each step.
