10gen, (Palo Alto, CA., USA) sponsor of a leading open source non-relational database MongoDB, and Red Hat (Raleigh, NC. USA), a leading provider of open source solutions, have announced new venues for collaboration.

Collaboration and joint development of best practices and blueprint reference designs for deploying MongoDB across Red Hat offerings will include the Red Hat Enterprise Linux enterprise operating system, Red Hat’s Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) OpenShift and Red Hat JBoss Middleware Solutions.

Red Hat announced a partnership with 10gen as the first NoSQL database solution for its OpenShift PaaS offering in 2011. As enterprises increasingly look for proven solutions to handle big data needs, Red Hat and 10gen have broadened their collaboration around NoSQL, helping developers to deliver on the promise of big data, Internet and cloud technologies working with Red Hat solutions.

“Web and enterprise developers need solutions that allow them to rapidly deploy applications that deal with large amounts of data in flexible public or private cloud environments,” said Scott Crenshaw, vice president and general manager, Cloud Business Unit at Red Hat. “Combining Red Hat’s technology stack with 10gen’s MongoDB NoSQL database will help developers to deliver on the promise of big data and cloud technologies.”

Through their collaboration, 10gen and Red Hat plan to develop best practices and blueprint reference designs that include Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, Red Hat JBoss Middleware Solutions, OpenShift, Red Hat CloudForms, and Red Hat Storage in combination with 10gen solutions. With this, joint customers can benefit from 10gen’s leading NoSQL database and the performance, stability, and security of the Red Hat platforms, enhancing investments in both Red Hat and 10gen technologies. Activities as part of the broader collaboration include: packaging MongoDB for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, tuning MongoDB and Red Hat Enterprise Linux to increase performance, optimizing MongoDB for Red Hat Scalable File System (XFS), and improving reliability and performance with next-generation hardware.
